Baja Peninsula Run Trip Report, Day Four

Day fours itinerary would have us head out to Laguna Ignacio for a couple of hours of whale watching. Then onto Scorpion Bay to camp at the legendary surf break. This section of road that is permanently washed and one bad decision left tour new friend Juan stuck in the mud. He was more than grateful for a tow out by Mike. We ended up meeting up with him again on the whale boat. Our whale watching panga and guide. Getting covered in whale exhalation was a strange highlight for the day. The whales were pretty hard to miss. I think we spotted around 15 or so in the two hours...

Baja Peninsula Run Trip Report, Day Three

Day three's plan was to drive from Punta SanFran to San Ignacio. Day three would be known as a mellow day. Total mileage for the day would be around 125 miles with a stop in the middle to hike up to see the cave paintings near El Arco. We stopped in Vizcaino for lunch and hit San Ignacio around 3pm. After a quick tour of the mission in town we headed back to the hotel for dinner and good nights rest in a bed. Sunrise on the Sea of Cortez. Our camp spot didn't allow for vehicles to be driven on the beach because its a sea turtle nesting site. I think everyone in the group...

FJ Summit 2013

The FJ Summit has been a seven year tradition in Ouray Colorado. This was my first time at the summit, but I can honestly say it wont be my last. The views are incredible and the trails are really challenging. The amount of FJ owners that showed up with their FJ's was astounding. I heard there were 300 FJ's and close to 600 people! The organizers claimed that it was the largest Toyota event in North America! In my opinion the best part about the event is it's a non profit event and all the proceeds go back to the local community.   Here's a gallery from our trip to the FJ Summit:

July 2013 Baja Adventure

Day one started out with crossing the border at Tecate. 10 miles after crossing we would be airing down for the rest of the trip. The compadre trails high reaching pine forest awaited us. We stopped at the rope bridge to do a little exploring.  It’s fairly secure with one person, but cross with 6 and it bounces like a trampoline!  With a new sense of adventure we changed course and decided to get a little techy on the goat trail on our way to Vally T.  Once there, we filled up on some authentic mexican food and gassed up for the next leg.  We moved on to the El Diablo dry lake where we picked...

Baja March 2013

I just can't stay away from Baja, and it doesn't help that the weather this time of year is just about perfect! We had day time temps in the 80's, and the nights were in the 50's. We crossed over the border in Tecate, where we ran into a couple of friends of mine who were on a trip to the Pacific side to ride dirt bikes. They were going to stay at Mike's Sky Ranch nested up in the mountains, but we were heading to the beaches on the Sea of Cortez. I don't know about you, but I was ready for some warm weather. We stayed in San Felipe the first night in a beautiful custom home within a gated community,...
